MacKenzie was brought to Save A Sato in Puerto Rico by a good Samaritan. There she was cared for by the wonderul volunteers after years of living on the streets. When she was ready, she boarded a plane and flew to the Northeast Animal Shelter in Salem, MA. Baxter and I meet this sweet girl on January 30, 2005. She came to live with us as a foster on February 2, 2005 - but we quickly knew she belonged here forever and was adopted soon after.
MacKenzie is a bilaterally deaf dog, but that does not stop her from living a normal life. She has mastered dozens of hand signals and has completed obedience training. She helps educate all that meet her about the misconceptions about deafness in dogs, and also about the plight of the Satos in Puerto Rico. She was recently chosen as a Dog Each Day, and her protrait by Larry Merrill appears below.
